چکیده

The heat treatment cycles that are currently applied to semi-solid processed components are mostly those that are in use for dendritic casting alloys. These heat treatments are not necessarily the optimum treatments. It is shown that a decrease of the solution treatment time at 540 o C from 6 hours to 1 hour does not alter the T4 or T6 tensile properties of the SSM processed A356 alloy. Slightly better impact properties are obtained with the shorter solution treatment. This could lead to time and energy savings. Natural aging prior to artificial aging causes the time-to-peak-hardness to be longer compared to the time when only artificial aging is used. Quenching after solution treatment in water at 70 o C results in slightly lower tensile properties than after quenching in water at 25 o C. The magnesium content of alloy A356 has a significant influence on the T4 and T6 properties of the alloy.

The T6 Heat Treatment of Semi-Solid Metal Processed Alloy A356

A solution treatment of 1 hour at 540 o C provided the best results for rheocast alloy A356-T6. Natural aging has a significant influence on the subsequent artificial aging response of the alloy. Arrhenius-type equations were derived to predict the time-to-peak hardness as a function of artificial aging temperature.

The Effect of Artificial Aging Treatment and Lubrication Modes on the Cutting Force and the Chip Surface Morphology when Drilling Al-Si-Mg (A356) Cast Alloys

This article reports the effects of various artificial aging methods and lubrication modes (dry, mist, wet) on the recorded cutting forces and chip morphology in drilling Al-Si-Mg (A356) cast alloys. In the course of this work, the work part sampled were as-received alloy (T0), solution heat-treated alloy (SHT) and then aged alloys at 155°C, 180°C, and 220°C (T4, T6, T61, T7), respectively. The...

Effect of Solution Treatment Temperature on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of A356 Alloy

Over the years, aluminum content in a vehicle part is increasing due to the needs to reduce weight as well as increase fuel efficiency. Most of the cast product in a vehicle part is mostly cast from A356 alloy. It is used because A356 alloy posses’excellent characteristics over other type of alloy such as cast ability, high weight-to-strength ratio, good corrosion resistance and good weld-abili...

The Effects of Mould Materials on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Cast A356 Alloy

Abstract In this study, the effects of mould materials on microstructure and mechanical properties of cast A356 Al alloy were investigated. The alloy was poured into three different moulds. Then the samples were homogenised and applied T6 heat treatment. The optical, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) studies were made. Secondary dendrite arm spacing (SD...
